Leo - Sidney Hall c. 1824

Leo is a hand-colored celestial chart designed by Sidney Hall and published between 1824 and 1825 as part of Urania’s Mirror. 

The plate presents Leo Major alongside the smaller constellation of Leo Minor, with each figure articulated through precisely plotted star positions, names, and magnitudes. Orientation markers, sectional divisions, and neighboring constellations remain visible, situating the lion within a mapped celestial field. The figural outline follows the distribution of stars, allowing classical imagery to function in service of astronomical structure rather than decorative emphasis.
